The Fall 2010 meeting of Illinois Surgical Society in Peoria, hosted by Dr.
and Mrs. Stephen Marshall, was a great success. After a reception at
the Marshall home on September 23, we met on September 24 and 25 at
the OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Saturday’s wet clinics featured
a laparoscopic “duodenal switch” procedure, a robotic right colectomy,
a video-assisted thoracic procedure, and a pancreatic cystogastrostomy
and splenectomy for a pseudocyst complicated by splenic vein thrombosis.
Only the heartiest among us played golf in the afternoon on a rather
blustery afternoon while the remainder of us toured the Kickapoo Creek
Winery, followed by dinner at Alexander’s Steakhouse that evening. Sunday
morning’s lectures featured an emphasis on minimally invasive technics
in thoracic, pancreatic, bariatric and endoscopic operative procedures.
We departed Sunday noon after two days of excellent surgical observation,
academic discussions, and renewal of unique friendships so typical of
this organization.
